Biography

BFA Wesleyan College, Macon, GA 1976

Apprenticeship with Takeo Sudo, Mashiko, Japan, 1997-98

MFA Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, 1981










Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Parks-Kirby has been a member of the Alma College faculty since 1982. Her teaching areas include drawing, ceramics, 3-D design, and sculpture.

The recipient of an Arts Midwest/NEA Regional Visual Arts Fellowship in 1994, she has special interests in architectural tilework and environmental sculpture. Her figurative drawings and ceramic sculptures are exhibited nationally and have been published in numerous books on contemporary ceramics. Recently, her work won awards in the 2nd Cheongju International Craft Competition in Cheongju,Korea and the 29th Bradley National Print and Drawing Exhibition in Peoria, Illinois.










She has completed a number of public tile installations - often in collaboration with the College's art students. In Spring Term 2002, she took a group of students to London and Stoke-on-Trent, England as part of the course, World Ceramics: London.
