Ostinelli and Priest - Gaynor Ostinelli and Paul Priest

"Ostinelli Priest

Specialising in ceramic animal sculpture, Ostinelli & Priest produce work which captures the spirit and essence of their animal subjects with modelling which is almost sketch-like in its spontaneity. The outcome is work which is light and inspired by the moment, adding originality and humour in which ever setting it is displayed.

Their inspiration comes from a wide variety of wild-life, including horses, hounds, hens, bulls, hogs, and woolves. Sculpt Gallery can also co-ordinate bespoke commissions on behalf of clients, with prices for commissions starting at around £650.

Ostinelli & Priest were chosen in 2012 from amongst 60,000 artists to take part in an event organised by Saatchi OnLine Gallery to showcase, worldwide, 1000 curator-selected works of art. They have also been shortlisted for Wildlife Artist of the Year 2013, which is open worldwide to wildlife artists."

Artists Statement

The perfect opportunity to see two heads working as one. Drawing on our individual talents and strengths we have established a range of work that is both popular and collectable.
Inspiration is drawn from human animal and bird form on an ever changing basis. We use texture, rhythm and colour into the clay to convey movement presence and humour into the work, these qualities being all important in any piece.
Our workshops and demonstrations have proved immensely popular, educational but fun, embracing all our making techniques.

Background History

Paul Priest studied graphic design, illustration and photography, working in this facet of the art world for a short time before realising ‘the mistake’.

Work with ceramic sculpture became my obsession as a result of attending an adult-ed pottery course and the subsequent establishment of my own studio.

Now a professional member of the CPA and other societies it was some six years ago I met Gaynor Ostinelli, and over the following period together we have developed our working partnership.  Still creating work individually as well as jointly we have moved to exhibiting our work in galleries and festivals as well as holding demonstrations and workshops.
