Grandier Bella
Bella received his bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines in 1993, graduating cum laude. Prior to his formal training, he was under the tutelage of Fernando Sena, considered as the foremost art workshop instructor in Manila. He later on studied Portraiture at the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle in 2009.
With great influence from his mentor, Bella dabbled in the realm of traditional art. In his early works, he earnestly studied the techniques espoused by Da Vinci and Rembrandt. As the latter became his inspiration for the longest time, Bella explored numerous subjects in his pursuit to master realism. Capturing the various nuances of light as it strikes the subjects’ surface, combined with a thorough understanding of color blending and application have aided Bella to create works that are close to nature.
Grandier’s recent works testify to a significant shift in his creative disposition. His concerns with the subject of humanity and adaption of contemporary methods in art making has enabled him to create more thought-provoking pieces. His art continues to evolve as he ardently investigates and expresses his vision further.
The artist lives and works in Quezon City, Philippines with his wife Belarmina and their child Gemina.
