Eileen Healy


Eileen Healy hails from Youghal,Co Cork.She completed her studies at the Crawford College of Art in 1988 when she won the prize of Student of The Year award.
The following year she was artist in residence at the Lavitte Gallery,Cork and then became a studio member of The Cork Artists Collective for 5 years.

Eileen Healy is mainly a figuretive artist who works from life.A strong believer in the practice of drawing she believes its this practice of working from life that keeps her work fresh and alive.

She uses models as her source of inspiration working with various lighting,investigating the effects of light and shadow on the body and face both with nudes and portraits.

Her finished pieces mostly show the figure in isolation,she rarely uses props or themes as the main focus is mainly on the person seated or lying in front of her.

Working in a variety of mediums she enjoys developing her skills in both pastel,oil and sometimes acrylic.

Eileen has shown both in solo and group shows including the Arnotts portrait award exhibiton and RHA,Dublin.She has received many commissions including a portrait of Cork playwrite and novelist Conal Creedon for the Crawford Gallery series of Irish writers by Irish artists.The image can be seen on the cover of his most recent publication,2nd City Trilogy.

She has taken part in many residencies including Tyrone Guthrie Centre,Burren Art College,Cillriallig and Nantes in Brittany.

On these residencies she has expanded her work into landscape and likes nothing more then working outside in nature taking in all its got to offer working in graphite,pastel and oil.

Eileen has been a member of the Backwater Artists Group in Cork for over 7 years

She also teaches life drawing adult ed classes at the Crawford College of Art.
