Jo Jones

Jo Jones' work is concerned with the human form and its relationships with and comparisons to landscape and environment, which are constantly important to her. She has always enjoyed working with clay as a medium to replicate scale and texture. My sculptures are ambiguous, self-contained characters - contemplative, quiet, serene, with heads bowed or skyward looking - together yet apart.

While landscape is a huge influence, she also draws a great deal from early fifteenth century Renaissance artists such as Giotto, Simone Martini, Masaccio, Pierro della Francesca and many more fresco painters - I find their boldness and simplicity remarkable.

She has exhibited in many places including Chichester Cathedral, Chapel Row Gallery Bath, Artspace, The Sculpture Show, Cube Gallery Bristol, The Life Building City of London, The Guild Bristol and many more. Her work is also held in private collections in Australia, USA, and Denmark as well as some commissioned portraits.

Jo Jones studied sculpture under Ivor Roberts-Jones and Michael Kenney at Goldsmiths College during the 1960's. She then attended Reading University for a postgraduate teaching year. Jo then moved to Bristol where she taught art and continued to develop her work.
