In deze werkwijze zijn drie fasen te onderscheiden;

"In my current work I choose to depict the man-made environment which I inhabit and interact with on a daily basis. I like to observe and record as accurately as I can. I make the scene my own by painting the view from an unusual angle which in some cases can often juxtapose different elements and presents the vista in a new light, or by adding loaded imagery, changing adverts, road signs etc. I have a keen interest in architecture especially ecclesiastical, I enjoy exploring in my work how building styles/ functions can compliment or be at odds with one another."

source

"I am a Bristol based artist.
My current work is influenced by the architectural diversity of Bristol, particularly its abundance of
ecclesiastical buildings.
I take inspiration from the rich historical tale that surrounds the periods of building and neglect in the
city. This is a major factor in buildings from many periods existing together.
I mainly work in oil, pen and ink."

"I was born in Vologda, North of Russia. Art has been a part of my life since childhood. For many years I have lived in several European countries and worked in the traditional 2D animation and illustration before returning to painting.I moved to New Zealand in 1998 and was working as a animator, illustrater for several animation studios in Wellington and same time has experimented in different mediums and techniques (watercolor and acrylic with oil) as a painter. My piece has a slightly surreal flavour. Inspired by the world's myths, fables, and tales of imagination I'm desires to create works that will 'delight' or 'enchant' the viewer. I wants my work to add up to more than a beautiful if sometimes 'magical' looking work of art. In 2010 I was awarded a for the Best Water Colour at the Rodney District Art Awards 2010."
Elvira Baranova

Education
"I studied painting, book illustration and animation at Republican College of Art, the Polytechnic University and the Artists Animator's Course at Kiev, Ukraine. Since that time I'm regular exhibitor a the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and Wellington's array of galleries and organisations. My painting are in private collections both within New Zealand and around the world. In 2004 I completed Diploma of Multimedia at the Natcoll Design Technology of Wellington and was employed as a 2D and 3D Matte/Digital Painter, storyboader, character designer, art concept artist for Huhu Studios and graphic design artist in the online gaming industry while continuing to pursue my own work as a painter. "Suzi Mather is not the product of any art school or college. There are no degrees hanging on her walls, only the multitude of awards and ribbons given to her by those with degrees in the arts. She is truly the epitome of the born artist.

From the first, Suzi has painted what she knows and loves. A great animal lover and horsewoman, her paintings evolved from horses, cowboys and Indians, through farm animals and children to her current passion - cats.

Suzi has developed a method almost unheard of in the use of water colors, painting from dark to light rather than light to dark as virtually all other watercolorists do. This enables Suzi to achieve the deep, rich colors and brilliant highlights that draw the eye to her paintings.

Mellowed and tamed by years of struggle, her eye now sought that which was pleasing and healing. The result has been watercolor paintings of cats which are neither cutesy nor stylized, but very real in a warm, almost touchable sense."

Leaf Carvings

Happy Valentine's Day

"A new art form emerging out of China. Creating these leaf carvings is no easy process, taking the delicate precision from a skilled artisan. With a knife, the leaf is slowly scraped of its outer layers, eventually revealing a near transparent surface. Special care is given to keep the veins intact to preserve the stability of the leaf.
Artists prefer using the leaves of the Chinar tree, native to India, Pakistan, and China. Resembling maple leaves, the distribution of veins in the Chinar leaves are the best suited for sculpting--and they are considered 'lucky' in Chinese tradition.
The process of producing a single leaf carving is said to take months of careful work. When the artwork is finished, the leaves are then preserved and framed--ensuring that they will last for decades

Peter was born in Western Victoria in 1964 and was raised on a property at Kanya until the age of seven. This environment ignited his life long interest in drawing, particularly the trees growing on and around the property. Peter was encouraged by artists and his parents from a young age to paint, first in watercolours age four and oils at age nine. After attending the Ronald Crawford School of Painting’ (Meldrum School of Tonal Impressionism) in Melbourne for one year, age seventeen, Peter moved to Sydney in 1989 to study drawing and etching full time at the Julian Ashton Art School, where he won the Inaugural Sir William Dobell Scholarship for Drawing in 1990. In the same year he became an assistant Tutor at the school, was awarded the Robert LeGay Brereton Prize for drawing at the Art Gallery of NSW and selected as a finalist in the Victorian Young Achiever Awards.

In 1991, he was awarded the prestigious A.M.E Bale Travelling and Educational Scholarship in Melbourne ($40,000), enabling him to embark on an extensive study tour throughout Europe, the United States and Japan. During this period Peter studied the work and techniques of the European, American and Japanese Masters. He lived and worked in private studios for six months in Amsterdam and Paris and visited eleven countries during 1992-93. During a three month stint in London, Peter attended lectures on the old masters techniques at the National Gallery of London. On his return to Australia, the artists’ interest and ability in painting portraits developed to a high degree and was advised by the Australian artist Sir William Dargie to pursue this aspect of his work.

In 1995 the artist was employed as a teacher of Painting, Drawing and Etching at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney and worked on his paintings in a private studio in York Street in the city. The following year he moved to the Central Tablelands of NSW where he taught drawing at the Western Institute of Tafe. After purchasing some land in a small village in the Central West of New South Wales in 2004, Peter built his own house over a period of years and worked on his art and commissions in a studio on the edge of the village. During this period his interest in trees was re-kindled and he embarked on several series of works relating to the theme.

In 2010 the artist began visiting the Blue Mountains of NSW regularly where he has now established a studio in idyllic surroundings. Peter has continued to paint and draw his favorite subjects and is known as a painter of people and trees.

Since 1981 Peter has accumulated a total of sixty two awards and honors for his work, including, three Gold medallions for most outstanding artist at the Dandenong Festival of Music and Art for Youth 1988 -1989 and 1990, The Norwich Industries Award – Camberwell 1989, The Bicentenary and H.B.A Award’ – Dandenong 1988 and 1990, The Alice Bale Travelling and Educational Scholarship 1991, The Calleen Acquisition Award – Cowra 1998, and Finalist in the Mosman Art Prize – Sydney, the Dobell Drawing Prize AGNW  2001-2005 and 2009, the Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize 2006-2007-2010 and the Mortimore Art Prize/Awards 2007-2009-2010-2011 and 2012.

Peter has received multiple portrait and tree themed commissions, has been exhibited in fifty five group shows in Regional and Commercial Galleries in Victoria and NSW, held nine solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney and Western Victoria and his work is represented in many private and some corporate collections in Australia, Belgium, Switzerland, USA, UK, Japan, Hong Kong and New Zealand.

Artist Statement
I am particularly interested in the way light interacts with the variety of textures, colours and materials present in old, worn, still life objects.  The resulting abstract arrangements of tone and colours can express qualities beyond physical form, i.e., strength and frailty, chaos and tranquility, melancholy and happiness, hot and cold, young and old.

Peter Schipperheyn

Acclaimed as Australia’s pre-eminent sculptor in marble of the human figure, Peter Schipperheyn has traveled annually to the marble quarries of Carrara Italy, since being awarded an Italian government scholarship in 1979.
Largely self taught he has dedicated himself to mastering the difficult medium of carving marble.

In 1989 Mr. Edmund Capon. [Director, Art Gallery of N.S.W] wrote the following about the sculpture of Peter Schipperheyn

"In the annals and history of Australian art, sculpture has forever taken second place to the art of painting. It is a fact that the landscape has been the source of eternal inspiration for the Australian artist, and painting is the medium for the expression of the landscape theme in art. The figurative traditions, the ultimate source of inspiration for Western sculpture, have therefore received essentially scant attention in Australia.

Peter Schipperheyn is one of the rare exceptions to that rule. His art and vision is wholly inspired by the great figurative traditions in Western art: his delicate drawings reflect an extraordinary sensitivity for the human figure, whilst his majestic marble sculptures are expressions of the grandeur and vision that aspire to the greatest European traditions. He is currently unique in Australia; no other living Australian artist has so totally dedicated himself to seeking a truly contemporary expression of Western arts most inspired tradition.

Peter Schipperheyn’s work expresses hope, sensitivity, classicism, contemporaneity: it shows above all that the fundamental concerns and emotions of mankind, like great art, transcend time."

Edmund Capon, Director Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney.
