Colin Staples

Colin Staples Biography

For Colin Staples "Art" and the world of "Visual Imagery" has always been a vital driving force within his life. It is where he instinctually connects with the beauty and character of each subject he puts on canvas, and the place where he discovers the moment where the visual journey begins with the train of thought in mind …

“I let go and watch the work create itself”

Although Colin’s love for art has existed since his early childhood years, and has continued to develop throughout his adult life Colin professes, “the concepts behind my art have been largely influenced by years of studying martial arts and it‘s philosophy of "shedding the ego“. Colin feels his best work is expressed through this approach, which has created a solid sense of intimacy and trust with the process and the subjects he paints.

Colin’s work is primarily portrait and figure in acrylics, which resonates a genuine feel of freshness through the continuous strokes and mixing of new colors. His paintings are on a large scale where Colin’s objective is to paint to the surface of the canvas while retaining the quality of the soul he sees before him. He states “although there is a lot of pre-planning that has to take place prior to the actual painting of the subject … and most of it goes out the window. However, it is at that very place where my ego moves out of the way and allows the image to create itself“.

“my work is completed within the one sitting to capture the soul and life essence of the subject. I find when I allow my soul the freedom to paint another’s soul ~ those are my best works and that of true" LifeArt “.

So after many years of painting Colin continues to feel a passion and calling toward abstraction with the focus on maintaining the essence and integrity of the soul before him. It is also where these elements stand as a testament to his love and respect for art, the incredible process and the next visual journey that awaits him.

"Education: I Graduated in Applied arts and Fine arts from Asia’s premier art school, Sir JJ Institute of Applied Art at Mumbai, India in 1991. Along with pursuing the two degree courses, I have trained in Bharatnatyam style of classical Indian dance. Currently, I am training to be a Hindustani classical vocalist at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, London.

Experience:
In India
After my degree course I started working for an advertising agency, Sowbhagya, as a visualiser / illustrator for 2 years. I then got the privilege to work with Mr.Viru Hiremath, Art director of Trikaya-Grey, Mumbai, India for the next 2 years.

While working in the agency I worked on several prestigious ad campaigns and challenging projects. This professional experience gave me confidence to start my own design studio.

In 1995 I started my own design studio, mainly concentrating on stain-glass paintings, murals and oil / acrylic paintings.

Working with interior designers and architects I got opportunity to work for high profile projects such as the Mayor’s Bungalow, several corporate offices and hotels.

During this time, apart from my main line work I participated in three group exhibitions. In these exhibitions I mainly displayed acrylic paintings along with experimenting with different mediums and themes. My work was well appreciated by audience and critics.

Venue for the first exhibition was the Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai, India. Here, I experimented with combination of acrylic and stain-glass paints on lampshades, mirrors and canvas too. There was an overwhelming response which resulted in very good reviews in India’s leading newspapers like the ‘Times of India’ etc and many private orders.

The second exhibition was held at the Nehru Centre Art Gallery, Mumbai, India. In Indian mythology, Lord Ganesha is recognised by 108 different names. All these names reflect his characteristics. The theme for this exhibition was a selection of twelve different names of the elephant God ‘Ganesha’ . This exhibition was one of the most successful ones so far. It got very good reviews and I also got coverage in the prime time news on the state TV channel. The show was completely sold out and I developed a lot of recognition among art dealers.

In the third exhibition, my work was inspired by African art forms. Apart from acrylic paintings, masks made from ceramic clay and glass were the main highlights. This show was greatly appreciated for its versatility.

In U.K.
In late 1999 I relocated to the UK. Since then I have concentrated on acrylic paintings. Inspiration for these paintings has been the beautiful English landscapes, the symmetrical architectural style and the seasonal change of hues all around me. But nostalgia about the past has made me continue with traditional Indian themes as well.

Since 2002, I have been associated with Wimbledon Art Studio, London. I have showcased all my work at the various art shows organised there. The response has always been very encouraging. My painting also got selected for the publicity material created by the Studio for the Art Review magazine.

I am currently working on Indian mythological theme using acrylic on canvas. Keep watching my gallery for latest additions."

Erika de Caunes

Erika

Murray Kimber

"Murray has been an artist all of his life. He began drawing when he was three and never stopped, filling stacks of drawing pads with comic book characters, custom-designed houses, race cars, rocket ships or posters for movies featuring Boris Karlof as Frankenstein or Christopher Lee as Dracula.

A graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1988, he chose to pursue illustration over graphic design and worked to establish himself as a sought after illustrator in Canada and the United States, creating original art for projects ranging from billboards to postage stamps, from children's' books to packaging.

In tandem with his commissioned work, Murray taught illustration and drawing for 5 years until 1997 when he and his wife moved to Mexico. Four years later and with a new baby daughter in tow, they returned to Canada to the shores of Kootenay Lake in Nelson, British Columbia.

After 40 years, Murray believes his drawing isfinally starting to show some promise."

Amaya Salazar

Amaya Salazar (born 1951, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a Dominican artist known for her faceless personas that inhabit mystical and magical environments where light and the Antillean flora are present
Amaya Salazar studied at the Academia Artium, Madrid, Spain and at the School of Fine Arts, Boston, U.S.A.

Salazar is mostly inspired by the female form and by mother and child images. She captures those intimate moments where women are escaping the reality of life and entering the warm of the Caribbean light.

Light and flora play an important role in Salazar's work. In her work, the rays of the sun and moon create kaleidoscope of tones throughout the landscape. In the nightscapes the palette turns dark almost black, but there is always an internal light that shines. Her brighter works give us the different tonalities that the sun create as it warms the landscape. The flora is an integral part of Salazar’s work. The banana leaves, the palm trees, the bamboo trunks are part of the environment that surround the characters; in some cases they are the only element of the piece.

Salazar also works in bronze, steel, and marble as well as creates charcoal on paper drawings and water color and Chinese ink on paper.

Her work can be found in important collections worldwide. There are two monographs about the artist’s work and a third one is being produced.

Danilo Hilario Ramírez  - Simón Danilo Hilario Ramírez “ yllari “

Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Trujillo

peru
argentina

Katayoun Rouhi

Born in 1965 (Iran) , lives and works in France since 1985.

Education
BA Fine Art, Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University, 1995 – 2000
Graduated with honours, and won best Graduation project amongst all entries.
Major studies: Graphic Design, Painting, Printmaking, and Mixed Media.
Minor Studies: Product Design, Photography, Multimedia, Textiles, and Ceramics.

Hossam Hassan Dirar, a 34 years old Egyptian artist; born and raised in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. This busy city, with its rich heritage and multi-culture facets, inspired Hossam - as a kid - to explore the world around him and train his imagination to aspire to the undefined and aim to the stars and beyond!

In the year 2000, and after graduating from The Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University; Hossam was interested in the study of calligraphy and its relation to art. He was thus a constant participant in all art, photography, and creativity workshops held at that time. He worked as a graphic designer for a multinational advertising agency in Egypt and then in 2005, he started his own art studio; specializing in producing graphic artworks on canvas. Hossam became known in Egypt and the Middle East as a genuine contemporary artist for his daring innovation in art techniques. He introduced his contemporary art to the Egyptian art market through his unique graphic artworks that were accentuated by hand paint and successfully exhibited in private galleries and showrooms. Hossam’s artworks were soon becoming valuable possessions for art lovers and collectors!
Merging his passion for art, his talent as a painter, and his graphics innovation; Hossam Hassan has managed to create his own artistic identity and present it to the world through a new concept of artistic creation.

Hossam Dirar

Art is my way of expressing my concepts & perspectives in life. Life is full of images; through my art I try to capture the essence of those images on canvas.

Abstract is my keyword. Nature is my inspiration. Mind, shapes, and imaginations are my basic elements.
My digital art explores the magic of our heritage in a new contemporary vision & give 'rebirth' to old & traditional icons; with the genuine use of colors, calligraphy, icons, & patterns.

Through my artwork I try to bring to life the beauty of old times, the depth of memorable images in a modern unique vision. Thus text & calligraphy are features that I use. The strong impact of words merged with the patterns make the piece of art a true illustration of my perspectives.

All is one & one is all… Observing different elements & shapes in nature my minds start to work. My imagination starts to see manifestation beyond what we normally see; the invisible in the visible.

I capture these manifestations, reduce them to their basic forms, blend them again creating something completely new full of life and movement. Creating an original piece of art that combines the essence of an idea & the emotion of my inner consciousness.
The result is originality, something you have never seen before.

Each one experiences these new illustrations depending on his imagination, beliefs, & perspective in life. And that's the beauty of Abstract art.

Being different is thinking different. In my artwork everything is possible. Any color is allowed. All shapes, forms & colors can be mixed together. In Art a fish doesn't have to be in the sea.

Everything I observe or experience in life inspires me; everyday small details, everything surrounding us, time, heritage, and memories.

I hope to make people see things that their eyes usually don't see; showing them images of what they feel. I wish to deliver my perceptions to the world; and Art is my way. Hoping that people start to feel the essence of things, only then they will see their own images in life.

Barry Hilton

Barry Hilton was born in 1941 in Manchester.

Whilst having no formal training, he moved to Cornwall in 1979 where the experience of working alongside a group of extremely active artists helped in the development of his artistic abilities.

This is a story of continuing development. He was told that “selling and success are synonymous” and should this be true then he could certainly be called successful.

His love of nostalgia which he captures in his paintings of Gas Light Streets and Marine scenes are much sought after and are well represented in private galleries throughout the UK.

However Barry refuses to be stereotyped and has recently had considerable success with beach scenes and still life, painted in a very modern style.
