Jarek Puczel

"Born in Ketrzyn, Poland in 1965, Jarek Puczel received his MA from the University of Warsaw in 1990. He approaches his work with the idea that life is a movie or a game of illusion and the world is a playground where different realities play with one another.
Puczel catches the calmness of apparently simple and unspectacular situations with an impressive modesty and apparent ease. He creates an interesting and tense moment, which we can neither escape nor interpret appropriately. The reduced, yet still expressive colors in his compositions create an outstanding clarity that seems less disturbing than it has a soothing and allaying effect on the viewer. He explores the empty silence of different situations and reduces the image to the most essential details, thus forcing us to read between the lines and let ourselves dive into the situation depicted."

John Holyfield



Born and raised in Clarksburg, West Virginia, John Holyfield was orphaned and reared by his grandmothers. Early in childhood, his interest in art was evident. Encouraged by teachers, family and friends, he studied art throughout school and went on to Howard University and the university of D.C. to major in graphic design. John's interests, however, soon switched to the finer arts. Realizing the appeal of his works, he entered the art market and has become a leading African-American artist. John's work has a strong southern folksy feel, capturing the essence of rural life. John paints with the maturity of a much older artist through the use of images that seem from an era past, yet with timeless messages. John's main themes are family, spirituality, and culture. For much of the subject matter, he draws from his family members, childhood memories and stories from his grandmothers. His grandmothers are his greatest inspirations; which explains the repetition of women in his works. Growing up a Baptist, he was captivated by the church and often depicts church scenes and images dealing with spirituality. Most memorable were the choir and the music; which are also repeated themes. John sensed, early on, that being black was something unique and special. he noticed that aspects such as music, spirituality, heritage, ways and traditions set his race apart from others. and he felt compelled to capture this experience, visually, on canvas. Such artists as Ernie Barnes, Norman Rockwell, and Frederic Leighton inspire John's style. Like Barnes, his compositions are full fo movement and his characters elongated and fluid. Most of his paintings, at a glance, tell a story or create a scenario. This style of visual story-telling is similar to Rockwell. John's dramatic use of light and shadows within his images is a direct influence of Leighton. A Tokio, subisce il fascino della cultura nipponica ,

ed è proprio qui che partecipa ad un concorso di pittura con il ritratto Momoko, che viene scelto ed

esposto presso il Ueno Royal Museum of Art.

Attualmente vive e lavora nei Campi Flegrei , tenendo mostre in Italia e all’estero.

Béatrice Bissara



Depuis son plus jeune âge, Béatrice Bissara évolue dans le monde de l’art. son enfance est bercée par les visites de musées, les promenades aux Puces et l’ambiance des salles de vente aux enchères. En accompagnant ainsi son père féru d’art ancien, elle forge déjà son goût pour la beauté classique.

Pourtant, bien que ne s’éloignant jamais de ce monde familier, il lui faudra quelques années pour se découvrir une véritable vocation créatrice.

Après ses études , MSG à Dauphine, DESS de sciences politiques et Maitrise d’histoire de l’art à la Sorbonne, cours du soir de l’Ecole du Louvre ; elle travaille successivement chez un expert en tableaux modernes et contemporains puis auprès d’un marchand d’art moderne, et enfin chez Sotheby’s, dans l’expertise des tableaux anciens, particulièrement du 17e et 18e siècles.

Dotées de connaissances approfondies en Histoire de l’Art, mais autodidacte dans la pratique, ce n’est donc qu’en 2001-2002 qu’elle commence à s’initier à la peinture et la sculpture, tout en poursuivant la photographie argentique, notamment développée en noir et blanc, à laquelle elle s’intéresse depuis dix ans. Car, passionnée de voyage depuis toujours, elle rapporte du Mali, de Chine, d’Inde, de Birmanie ou de Madagascar des instantanés de vies d’ailleurs…

Sa passion pour le volume et la couleur l’a même conduite à suivre des cours de modélisme (couture floue) au Lycée Rose Bertin, à Paris ainsi que de dessin professionnel en stylisme à la Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.

Durant ces années, elle court les ateliers à la recherche d’un maître susceptible de lui enseigner l’art du dessin, de la peinture ou de la sculpture, elle fréquente divers ateliers, s’initiant aux techniques de peintures anciennes, au pastel, et surtout au nu et au modèle vivant. D’emblée, son inspiration est figurative, et l’artiste en devenir se tourne vers les portraits féminins ou la figuration animalière.

Son apprentissage se fait finalement au gré du travail avec les modèles, et de rencontres déterminantes pour l’affirmation de sa vocation. Ainsi la rencontre avec le sculpteur Petrus, pratiquant exclusivement la taille directe dans son atelier parisien, l’initie à l’anatomie et la mesure.

Aujourd’hui résolument tournée vers le travail de sculpture sur bronze, elle poursuit, dans une inspiration figurative, sa quête de la beauté, de l’équilibre et de l’harmonie des corps, des visages et des âmes. Elle expose dans des galeries et salons depuis 2005-2006.


















Béatrice Bissara



Les sculptures de Béatrice Bissara séduisent d’abord par leur beauté classique, leur sensualité équilibrée, la douceur harmonieuse de leurs formes. C’est que l’artiste, depuis son enfance passée dans les musées jusqu’à son passé d’experte en œuvres anciennes, aime et connaît l’œuvre des plus grands. De Canova à Rodin, de Michel Ange à Puget, c’est dans le génie de ces figures magistrales que l’artiste puise d’abord son inspiration et le désir de maîtriser la « logique beauté des formes », comme l’écrivait Octave Mirbeau*.



Passionnée par l’anatomie, et en particulier par celle du corps humain, elle est fascinée par l’ extraordinaire complexité de sa géométrie et de sa mécanique. Si la perfection de l’organisation du vivant, de l’univers à la plus petite molécule, la convainc d’un ordre métaphysique de l’univers, elle sait que l’art de la statuaire requiert une parfaite connaissance de la vérité du corps humain pour parvenir à en saisir le miracle des proportions et de l’équilibre. Elle y travaille donc ardemment, consciente de trouver dans ce savoir les moyens de libérer son savoir-faire.

Sensible à la sensibilité, elle aime le contact direct à la matière, celle des plâtres et terres dont elle sort d’abord ses modèles, avant de les emmener à la fonderie.





Reflet de la personnalité de sa créatrice, l’œuvre de Béatrice Bissara est une oeuvre exigeante, qui ne se laisse pas réduire à la pure séduction de la beauté formelle. D’emblée, derrière la posture et les courbes harmonieuses de ces jeunes filles, s’esquissent, se devinent, se pressent, une sensible humanité, une grâce vivante et vibrante transcendant celle de la matière. Car pour Béatrice Bissara, sculpter le corps, le visage d’une femme représente bien plus que formes et traits. Ils livrent une réalité émotionnelle tout autant que charnelle. Ils se font mouvement intérieur, expression d’un monde intime, tumultueux, passionnel et questionnant. Ils répondent à un appel métaphysique, par lequel, dit l’artiste « le corps n’est plus uniquement le reflet du monde sensible mais aussi, à qui veut le voir, celui du monde spirituel ».



Certaines œuvres inspirées de textes religieux, comme son interprétation du « Yetser Hara » (le « mauvais penchant », expriment sans nul doute la foi qui soutient et sous-tend tout le travail de Bissara. Mais dans le même temps, poursuivant une incessante quête de la beauté, son oeuvre, sensuelle et cérébrale, prend le tournant d’une liberté reconquise et assumée, d’une sérénité qui s’épanouit.





« L’art », disait Rodin, « est la plus sublime mission de l’homme ». En posant un regard « bienveillant » et fidèle sur ses modèles, Bissara remet cette mission au goût d’un jour nouveau. Elle nous transmet en douceur les clés pour que s’ouvre notre regard sur l’humaine altérité, sa vérité, sa beauté intrinsèque. Elle offre cette beauté comme un message d’espoir et, au-delà, de salut.



Fondamentalement esthète, Béatrice Bissara est convaincue que le beau hisse l’humanité vers les hauteurs, qu’il est à la fois une école d’exigence, d’humilité, de patience, de méditation. Car le beau, dit-elle, ne se laisse pas si facilement atteindre, ne se galvaude pas et se construit.

Parce qu’il parle de ce mystère de la beauté dans son universelle reconnaissance, l’art de Bissara est atemporel, tissant des liens invisibles mais sensibles avec toutes les féminités du monde, tous les âges d’or de l’Histoire de l’Art, toutes les nourritures spirituelles.

Igor Mitoraj

Igor Mitoraj (born 1944) is a Polish artist born in Oederan, Germany.




He studied painting at the Kraków School of Art and at the Kraków Academy of Art under Tadeusz Kantor. After graduating, he had several joint exhibitions, and held his first solo exhibition in 1967 at the Krzysztofory Gallery in Poland. In 1968, he moved to Paris to continue his studies at the National School of Art.
Shortly afterwards, he became fascinated by Latin American art and culture, spending a year painting and travelling around Mexico. The experience led him to take up sculpture.
He returned to Paris in 1974 and two years later he held another major solo exhibition at the Gallery La Hune, including some sculptural work. The success of the show persuaded him that he was first and foremost a sculptor.
Having previously worked with terracotta and bronze, a trip to Carrara, Italy, in 1979 turned him to using marble as his primary medium and in 1983 he set up a studio in Pietrasanta. In 2006, he created the new bronze doors and a statue of John the Baptist for the basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Rome.
In 2003 he returned to Poland.
In 2005 he received the Golen Medal of Medal for Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis 2012 he received the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.


Mitoraj's sculptural style is rooted in the classical tradition with its focus on the well modelled torso. However, Mitoraj introduces a post-modern twist with ostentatiously truncated limbs, emphasising the damage sustained by most genuine classical sculptures.

Jack Thompson (aka Jugo de Vegetales)

Artist Statement

My work has always been inspired by the art of ancient and aboriginal cultures. My first sculptures represented animal/human deities drawn from Egyptian mythology. Since then, my research has expanded to include religions and mythologies from India to Scandinavia, from Africa to New Guinea and from Alaska to Peru. I have found remarkable similarities in imagery and symbolism from all these cultures, which inform my own conscious and unconscious narratives.

The underlying meaning of mythology explains the cosmos and the origins and purpose of the peoples’ existence. Deeper investigation reveals their beliefs about the wheel of life or the passage of the life force. The genetic predisposition to illustrate idea as icon is seen in the incredible similarity of archetypal images from vastly different and isolated geographies.

The study of these mythologies reveals the essence of the characters which form my own pantheistic art. In avoiding an initial tendency to copy rather than invent, the animals, people and events, which surround me, feed into the unconscious soup from which my characters are ultimately drawn. Whether inspired by my wife, my dog, the swan at the lake or a book on Dogon art, the imagery I portray often feels archetypal to me, even in the absence of historic precedent.

Born 1973, Innsbruck, Austria.
Lives and works in Axams near Innsbruck and Munich, Germany.
The ability to give expression to the human form, to transmit and translate its language is an ability, which the sculptor Mario Dilitz definitely has.

He combines traditional sculptural knowledge and technical skills with contemporary issues and thereby manages to create sculptures of great intensity and appeal.

His work does polarize. There is a contrast between the aesthetic beauty of his sculptures and the content of the issues, where a profound confrontation with the vagaries of human existence takes place.

On the one hand Mario Dilitz manifests the contradictions occuring in human nature, on the other hand he knows to unite them in his work.

Even his choice of material reveals these contradictions. His sculptures, most of them lifesized, are created out of high quality laminated wood. After a process of destruction and then construction the wood has reached a new form of stability, which wouldn’t have been possible in its natural condition. This process is made visible by the joints of glue in the laminated wood. Mario Dilitz chooses red glue thereby signing his creations unmistakably.

Casper Berger



Sculptor Caspar Berger (1965) studied at the AKI, Enschede and at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht, the Netherlands. He draws much of his inspiration from the Italian High Renaissance and transforms its language to the present day. In his work Berger investigates the relationship between the interior and exterior, between reality and image. Berger gives shape to his ideas using silicone casts of models and of his own skin or even what’s underneath, leading to its end result in bronze, silver and sometimes gold.

For his new project Skeleton, sculptor Caspar Berger has used the very latest technology to reveal the invisible. He had his body scanned in one of the world’s most advanced CT scanners. Using a 3D printer he was then able to produce precise reproductions of parts of his skeleton – for the pilot, he chose the upper arm bone and skull. These two works, the artist’s upper arm bone cast in gold and a bronze forensic reconstruction of his face based on the copy of his skull, Berger is now presenting as two ultimate self-portraits: Skeleton / Self-portrait 20 and Skeleton / Self-portrait 21.
These two works are the prelude to a larger project. Under the title Skeleton he will cast all his bones in different materials and incorporate them in a series of artworks, in each of which he will approach the phenomenon of the skeleton in art history from a different direction. He will present his bones as sculptural objects, based on the concept of a collection. He will also explore the phenomenon of relic veneration, presenting parts of his skeleton as contemporary relics. Finally he will develop an artwork that makes a connection between two crucial elements of human identity: the skin, which when we are alive bears our unique identity in a fingerprint, and the bones from which we can be identified after our death.

Javier Chavira is an award winning visual artist whose work is in numerous public and private collections including the National Museum of Mexican Art, The Bank of America Art Collection and many others. He earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree (1996) and a Master in Arts degree (1999) from Governors State University. In 2002 He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Northern Illinois University. At Northern Illinois University Javier studied "Technique Mixte," an adaptation of a 16th century Flemish painting technique, under the direction of accomplished painter Patrick Betaudier. The academic technique has been an integral part in Javier's process ever since. Javier Chavira is currently the Associate Professor of painting and drawing at Governors State University.

Zhang Yaxi




Contemporary Chinese sculptor Zhang Yaxi (pronounced "Djang" and 'Yashi' in English) lives and works as a professional sculptor in Chongqing (formerly within Sichuan province), China.

Education & Work
1982-1986: Studies in the Secondary Art School attached to the Sichuan Fine Art Institute.
1986-1991: Studies in the Sculpture Department of the Sichuan Fine Art Institute. Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
1993-1994: Studies at the Sculpture Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China.
2002: Earned a Masters of Fine Arts Degree from the China Fine Art Academy in Zhejiang.
2002: Three month residency at the Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris France, with visits to museums and sculpture parks in Holland, Belgium, Germany and Italy.
2002-2003: Further English studies and Post-Graduate studies.
1997-2010: Works her way up from Assistant Lecturer to Associate Professor, teaching sculpture in the Design Department of the Sichuan Fine Art Institute, as well as pursuing her professional career as a sculptor in her own studio. She has also participated in national and international sculpture symposia and national exhibitions.






Her training and education is that of a typical young Chinese sculptor today (she has created monumental sculptures up to 7 metres in height), and her sculpture has been exhibited in several international sculpture symposia and national sculpture exhibitions as well as being commissioned for public and corporate spaces.

Shown below, Yaxi is working on one of her monumental works entitled The Gate of Life, a monumental urban sculpture in bronze created during the China Changchun International Sculpture Symposium 2001. In a more ephemeral vein, browse to see Pregnant, a monumental snow sculpture created on a frozen lake in Harbin, China. You can also see "Honorable Hero - General Ba" a monumental work created during the 4th International Sculpture Symposium of Vietnam in December of 2003.

In the last two years, Yaxi has been working on a series of provocative and moody nudes which can be wall-mounted - the perfect answer for anyone who feels they don't have enough table-top or floor space!!! 






A few of her most "high-profile" projects include her award-winning "Mother and Child" - a monumental sculpture 16m wide x 7m high x 6m deep for the city of Golmud in Qinghai Province, and the Tennis Terracotta Warrior series for the ATP / Tennis Master Cup Shanghai 2007 which she worked on with fellow sculptors Laury Dizengremel and Shen Xiaonan



Zhang Yaxi was commissioned in 2007 by the Mayor of Golmud to create a public artwork marking Qinghai province as a gateway to Tibet from China. This monumental sculpture, which won the Excellence prize from the National Urban Sculpture Association in 2009, was executed by Yaxi and her assistants first in clay over a steel and wood armature, then was moulded in plaster.

The mould sections were transported by truck from Chongqing to Qinghai, and cast in concrete over a gigantic steel armature on a large concrete base. The dramatic high-elevation desert plateau framed by mountains makes a perfect location for this technically challenging public sculpture.

Zhang Yaxi was awarded the prestigious Excellence Prize for Urban Sculpture
by the National Urban Sculpture Association of China for this "Mother and Child" sculpture.

In view of the fact that thousands of new urban sculptures are commissioned and created in China every year, this is a remarkable achievement. The Association published in 2009 a book featuring the 100 best public sculptures created in China between 1949 and 2009
and this sculpture features among them.

Gilberto Aquino

Self-taught painter, born in El Salvador on the bosom of a family of farmers. He grew up surrounded by people and hospital workers who were able to instill strong moral character and shape their good man.

After completing his secondary studies at the Don Bosco College, traveled to Costa Rica, where he has lived since then and decided to cultivate the art that from childhood had been his greatest dream: painting.

He has successfully developed various techniques. Among them, acrylic, especially with lots of texture, outstanding feature throughout his work, like the elegance and good taste.

His works have been exhibited in Costa Rica and other countries like Mexico, Germany, Panama, El Salvador.

Pintor autodidacta, nacido en El Salvador en el seno de una familia de origen campesino. Creció rodeado por personas trabajadoras y hospitalarias, quienes supieron inculcarle sólidos principios morales y forjar su carácter de hombre de bien. Después de cursar sus estudios secundarios en el Colegio Don Bosco, en 1972 viajó a Costa Rica, país en donde reside desde entonces y en el que decidió cultivar el arte que desde niño había sido su mayor anhelo: la pintura.

Ha desarrollado con gran éxito varias técnicas. Entre ellas destaca el acrílico, sobre todo con mucha textura, característica sobresaliente en toda su obra. También ha experimentando con diferentes elementos y materiales.

Ha expuesto sus pinturas en Costa Rica y en otros países.

Erika Stanley


Erika Stanley, born on the 9th of October 1973, lets her creativity rule since her early youth. As a child, she’s not interested in easy toys. She prefers to draw, play with Lego and Meccano and experiment with music instruments. Her parents stimulate her in that, something for which the artist will always be grateful. At the age of 3 she starts to be interested in art, after examining a book from Belgian painter Magritte. His surrealistic works have such a deep impact on Erika, that she naturally chooses a similarly direction of art.
NEWS LETTER
After her high school period, which is highlighted by excellent results in creative classes, Erika starts to paint at the age of 17. She becomes a student at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Costa Rica. At first she combines traditional art classes with film production, but along the way Erika starts to prefer
working alone over creating within a team. Being just 22 years old, she is acknowledged by critics as a talent in painting, sculpturing and creating three dimensional art objects. Those art expressions come by turns in Erika’s work schedule. “When I’ m painting, I think about designing sculptures and vice versa. It’s a process that I can’t stop and because of that I never have a lack of inspiration.” The interest in Erika’s work is not limited to the Costa Rican market. Expositions in Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, the United States and Germany. Recently she’s mainly active in Latin America, while her new home base in the Netherlands gives Erika the opportunity to further explore European art territories. She is resolved to grow and to keep developing her art. “The reason that I like to renew my work and expose it all over the world is that I want to spend the rest of my life making art, wherever possible and in each thinkable form.”

It doesn’t take long before the young artist is successful with mysteriously looking, surrealistic works, sold through renowned galleries In Costa Rica. Being just 22 years old, she is acknowledged by critics as a great talent in painting, sculpturing and creating three dimensional art objects. Those art expressions come by turns in Erika’s work schedule. “When I’ m painting, I think about designing sculptures and vice versa. It’s a process that I can’t stop and because of that I never have a lack of inspiration.”

The interest in Erika’s work is not limited to the Costa Rican market. Expositions in Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, the United States and Germany help her to become internationally well-known. Recently she’s mainly active in Latin America, while her second home base in The Netherlands gives Erika the opportunity to further explore European art territories. She is resolved to grow and to keep developing her art. “The reason that I like to renew my work and expose it all over the world is that I want to spend the rest of my life making art, wherever possible and in each thinkable form.”

Después del bachillerato empecé a trabajar como asistente del departamento de arte de una agencia publicitaria, 2 años después era jefe de arte; fui de noche a estudiar a la UCR y de las generales me metí a Bellas Artes y me salí a los 2 meses debido a que yo tenía un proceso más acelerado. A los 27 años me independice y monte un estudio de diseño publicitario y empecé a estudiar pintura realista con Gonzalo Morales hijo varios meses, en 1979 participe en la bienal XEROX de Centroamérica y Panamá y me gane el primer premio $3.500 con esa dinero me fui a conocer galerías y museos de New York, Madrid. Barcelona y Paris al regreso dedique medio tiempo a pintar y el otro a publicidad.
Como no pertenecía a ninguna argolla del medio cultural me vi obligado a buscar galerías en el exterior donde me aceptaron por tener una obra homogénea y con calidad, eso me permitió a los 35 años dejar la publicidad y vivir de la pintura dignamente y con reconocimientos hasta hoy día.

Guillermo "Chino" Porras


One of today’s most distinguished Costa Rican painters, Guillermo Porras, has developed over the last 30 years a very rich cultural and lyrical imagery. Evocative of a place in time where memories and magic interact, with characters that move in a structured and very dynamic space, his pictorial resources are vast and brilliantly developed. Textured graphic, lines made with great delicacy unite themselves with agile brushstrokes and spontaneous gestures.

Formally a professor of art at the University of Costa Rica, his paintings have been represented in over 60 solo and group exhibitions internationally, garnering more than 20 prestigious awards and honors throughout his career.

Flora Zeledón



Nacida en Alajuela, de crianza josefina, Flora Zeledón Castaing, artista costarricense, estuvo desde temprana edad orientada hacia la pintura. Acostumbraba desde niña a procurarse los mejores materiales, y encontró en el color y la línea su forma de vida. Durante su niñez y adolescencia fue trazando su camino hacia el arte, encontrando en el dibujo su medio de expresión. Su talento no quedaba sólo en las aulas: frecuentemente realizaba carteles y tarjetas por encargo. Pintó su primer cuadro al óleo a los 13 años; tanto padres como profesores supieron fomentar su creatividad. Ingresó a la Universidad de Costa Rica y en la Facultad de Bellas Artes inició una destacada carrera en las Artes Visuales, especializándose en Pintura. Sus profesores la incluyeron en exposiciones al lado de reconocidos artistas. Incluso, de muy joven, ya participaba en los Salones Anuales de entonces, lo que dio paso a siguientes participaciones en bienales y publicaciones. Entre ellas, una en sus primeros años de carrera, del Museo del Banco Central, que adquirió una de sus obras como patrimonio nacional.

Sus obras han ilustrado muchas veces las portadas de diferentes publicaciones. Ha realizado estudios en grabado y papel. Ha trabajado en ilustración, diseño, vitral y dibujo animado. Fue dibujante del Departamento de Anatomía de la Escuela de Medicina de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Es miembro fundador de la Asociación Costarricense de Acuarelistas. Ha realizado exposiciones individuales desde 1979, de óleo, acrílico y acuarela, y ha articipado en casi una centena de exposiciones colectivas desde 1975. Entre éstas, certámenes y concursos, cuatro Salones Anuales, tres Bienales Nacionales, dos Bienales de Acuarela (en México y Hong Kong), exposiciones institucionales y otras en el exterior, en España, Puerto Rico, Francia e Italia.

Ha recibido diferentes premios a nivel nacional y reconocimientos. Posee una amplia trayectoria en la pintura y una destacada participación en la Acuarela Costarricense. Sus pinturas en algunas ocasiones han sido adquiridas y obsequiadas por algunos Presidentes de la República a distintas personalidades en el exterior. Hoy, la obra de Flora Zeledón es vasta y promete seguir cosechando éxitos en más proyectos. La investigación, la maestría técnica, la luz, la forma, la línea y el color serán siempre los componentes de su búsqueda artística.
