Vincent Xeus

"“In the middle of the night, there lies a boy who dreams of flying in the sky.” These words mark the beginning of a grand story in the making as this boy continues to dream into the darkest hours, shrouded in the dense scent of amber varnishes and sun-thickened walnut oils.

On a cool morning of early 1980s in Central China, Vincent Xeus opened his eyes to a suppressed world that didn’t allow artistic expression to flourish. Nevertheless, Vincent’s interests in art happened early. Ever since he was given his first drawing kit at the age of 9, his comprehension with art was immediately visible, and his unending obsession began. By age 14, his work has been published in national newspaper and acquired by collectors overseas. In the summer of 1998, Vincent finished his last tonal drawing in the solitude and quietness of his childhood home before he voyaged to the United States. He graduated with a B.A. in Architecture with High Honors from University of California, Berkeley in 2006 and founded Marque Design in 2008.

The young boy, now a man, fell in love with time and space, with circle of life, with human context, and with the many faces of truth. The night studio is his imaginarium, where all his dreams come alive. Vincent draws from reflections of the uniquely profound experience life has unfolded for him, crafting each of his creations with layer after layer of paints until its intensity reaches a breaking-point. He questions the seemingly certain reality, peels off empty dull forms, opens the vein of mindless fear and dissects the subject’s innate fragility and instability. Finally he concludes with an audacious and yet invigorating twist that haunts and disseminates endlessly. There is no telling what he will unveil next, but his work is consistently notable for their transcendent finish and alluding textures that bear witness to great craftsmanship. With the conceptual training from architecture practice, he composes profound imagery that punctuates the manifold layers of human psyche in order to articulate the meaning of our existence. At times, his work radiates a latent darkness coupled with his artistry in precision. Vincent is never shy to seduce the viewer into his world of sanctuary and solace, loss and love, tragedy and beauty. Each story conveyed is truly memorable. Vincent’s enigmatic work of art is the art of illusion, mystery and introspection, where subjects and streams of emotions engage and exchange, allowing the viewers' eyes to travel from one reality to another without boundaries. "Si je devais me dépeindre...

Oliver Ray

"His work has been sold to collectors as far away as India, Australia, Great Britian and The Philippines. From golf tournaments to music festivals and branding for organic coffee, the copyright to Oliver Ray’s art is also in demand. And while his audience grows, this emerging artist continues to explore new subject matter from his studio on Prince Edward Island.Canadian artist, Oliver Ray, painting outdoors.

Oliver William Ray was born on the last day of summer in Winnipeg, Manitoba . As the youngest of four siblings, he became a keen observer. With an extensive library to complement the family’s eclectic art collection, the young “student” was immersed in Fine Arts from the beginning.

The most immediate and constant images in his life were of art. His uncle, now an internationally renowned illustrator, was busy studying Fine Arts in France. George Ray, Oliver’s Grandfather, was a commercial artist in the advertising department of the Hudson’s Bay Company. His Great Grandfather, also named George, wrote plays and novels (most notably the adventure romance “Kasba”, published in 1915). And Oliver’s Great Aunt Joy, who studied at the Ontario School of Art, was an accomplished landscape painter (as was her second husband). Each of these relatives added to the family’s extensive collection of works and greatly influenced Ray’s first creative impulses.

After an adventurous trip to Hong Kong and Australia, the young artist enrolled at the University of Northern British Columbia. There he was elected President of the school’s student association and became the first person to receive a Northern Studies degree in Canada. Like his great grandfather, a Conservative member of the Manitoba government, Oliver represented the Progressive Conservatives in the 2000 federal election- a campaign that became the federal party's last stand.

The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, inspired Oliver to join the Canadian Armed Forces, where he was commissioned an officer. A year later, he married his sweetheart, Christie Lee Westman in a small Anglican church in the tiny community of Quick, BC. Their honeymoon was a backwoods trip through northern BC to Alaska.

Artist Oliver Ray and his wife Christie. After his stint in the Military, Ray was hired by the Deputy Premier of British Columbia (and Minister of Health Services) to be her representative in the largely rural riding of Prince George – Mount Robson. At the same time, Christie developed her business acumen working for several large firms in forestry and economic development. Her skills would prove invaluable when the couple succeeded in making art a fulltime endeavour.

In 2010 Oliver and Christie fulfilled a long standing dream and moved their young (and growing) family to a small village on Prince Edward Island. They bought a 100 year old church and converted it into a home and studio. Oliver continues to spend his days painting while Christie manages their business affairs and makes art connections on a truly global scale."

McAlpine Miller

“McAlpine Miller is one of the best artists of our time, painting about our time, in the best way I’ve seen. This is how he is changing the course of Art History - much in the same way that Da Vinci, Monet and Picasso did. The art of tomorrow starts here...” Estelle Lovatt, Art Critic
McAlpine Miller graduated from Glasgow School of Art with a BA Honours in Drawing and Painting in 1990. He was also shortlisted for the Provost Award at Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Museums in 1996.
Having worked to develop his unique style McAlpine Miller is now concentrating his attentions on a new collection of works, to be unveiled late 2014.
McAlpine Miller is the artist in residence' at The Savoy Hotel, London. Eight paintings were unveiled in November 2012. "A Time For Reflection" will hang in the Thames Foyer at The Savoy. It is one of the most popular parts of The Savoy. As The Savoy’s artist-in-residence McAlpine Miller fully immersed himself in the rich history of The Savoy spending time looking through the hotel archives and also in the hotel itself. Elements of The Savoy, both past and modern, can be seen in the layers of these intricately painted works.
He has enjoyed successful Solo exhibitions with galleries such as Connaught Brown, London; Duncan Miller, London; Ruth O'Hara, New York; Catto Gallery, London; Rebecca Hossack Gallery and Kings Road Gallery, London, amongst others.
His work continues to attract the attention of galleries and collectors across the world.

TRANSPARENT SOCIETY BY MCALPINE MILLER

... “As much an illusionist as a close up painter, McAlpine Miller is a technically brilliant, very imaginative Neo-Figurative Op artist. Painting on two or more planes he takes from two realms. In the background are American Comics and imagery, Walt Disney and Superheroes from Action Comics. Containing that in the foreground are images of stylish, cool supermodels. McAlpine Miller’s craftsmanship is phenomenal, painting with an illustrators precision and watercolourists layering but all in oil paint.” EL  ...

Frans Cronjé

Having learnt the basic disciplines of working with watercolour, pencils, acrylics and oil paint, he quickly became bored with being limited to one specific medium on any given work. He began to experiment with paper as an art medium and started applying tiny bits of torn magazine scraps to make highly detailed portraits. Soon he started to use sand in his paint for extra texture, watercolour washes as backgrounds, aquarelle wax crayons for patterned wall papers, gel ink for fine lines and paper collage for main shapes.

In 2010 Cronje started experimenting with mixing together different mediums to create unique portraits. “I don’t love any specific medium more than another, I just happen to love whatever medium that loves me on any given day”, says Cronje. He also started incorporating other forms of paper such as street maps, playing cards, stamps and newspapers into his collages.

Cronje also started using the centuries old tradition of encaustic wax to seal the finished works.

“I melt the wax into a liquid form and then paint onto the canvas at a very rapid speed. The beauty of it lies in its translucent qualities and the way in which it ages the art work almost instantaneously,” says Cronje.

When the artist is creating collage portraits, they are seldom planned in advance. Cronje spills colour grabs of his choice at that moment onto a piece of board paper and then he starts to randomly build a neck, shoulders, head and ears out of bits of torn paper. Then he adds a mouth, nose, eye sockets and eyes. At this stage he still does not know whether he is busy creating a man or a woman. He simply allows the freedom of the creation to lead him to wherever it wants to go. The torn paper used could be anything from newspaper, playing cards, street maps to stamps.

Each portrait is presented with a story that brings the character to life. He does this by staring at the finished art work for a few minutes, whilst asking the questions; “Who are you? What is your name? What is your story? What makes you tick? Who do you remind me of? What feelings you awaken in me and what poem should be written about you?” These stories are then printed out and sold along with the paintings.

Now based in Pretoria, Cronje was born in Parys in the Free State in 1961. Following 4 years of private art lessons with Tania Summers for a year and then with Stella Olivier for 3 years, Cronje started exhibiting in 2011.He is currently a full time lay minister and founder of Lamb Ministries. His art practice was an expression of his need to deal with the stresses of his day to day work, as well as his own depression. He is passionate about teaching and would like to teach art in future when he retires from counselling and full-time ministry.

His creative accomplishments extend beyond his visual art practice. Amongst his achievements, Cronje has danced with Mercedes Molina Dance School as an accomplished Spanish dancer, has written a book and was a successful clothing designer for 15 years. He is also skilled in ironmongery, which he has applied to the production of sculptural works.

In his recent works, Gulveli Kaya depicts well-known yet unrecognized faces with a figurative and photorealistic approach using acrylics. In the catalogue text, Prof. Dr. Zahit Buyukisleyen describes these unrecognized faces in young artist’s works as:
“He has found unrecognizable faces in abstract spaces… Faces that are nostalgic, yet unknown…! ‘Faces we could call nostalgic or faces we don’t recognize that we find as statements on the walls, on the wallpapers of Gülveli Kaya’.The faces that pass the screen momentarily in TV and cinema frames...”
