I am European painter/ illustrator/ graphic designer born in former Yugoslavia, currently based in Turin (Italy); During the years i was Inspired by urban pop culture, surrealism movement, street art, Absurdist fiction literature , life in general, people, animals, nature, dreams, folklore tales…

Artist statement:
I've always had a sharp eye and strong emotional attraction for the strange beauty and the grotesqueries of life. My inspiration comes from a need to tell a story, to search deep into the subconscious layered realms of my soul and hear what it has to tell me, listen to that inner voice which has a need to break outside! For me art is life itself, but life in the very essence of it, with all the good and bad that it carries along the way.. it demands courage, it demands vision, it demands faith, love and devotion! Therefore I find myself, in front of every new canvas, like a modest, honest missionary and like a fearless warrior, on the side of light against darkness, in search for answers of life, love, meaning, bonds.. in front of every new canvas, over and over again I am brave beginner on the exciting quest of discovery and creation! My art is strongly focused on figurative narration which on a first look can be a far distance fairy dreamy world set in a fantastical landscapes of imaginary which echoes of her own, but I rather like to see them as a simple reflection of us - modern society without it's masks, without the fake presentations that make us acceptable no matter which group we are part of. Yet I strongly believe that the only place where we are truly revealed the way we are is one from the inside and that's the one that I try to capture on the canvas. I welcome you to my bitter, yet sweetly coated prescription for modern life!

Miwa Ishiba - 石庭 美和

"Miwa Ishiba is titled Children on Planets. Ishiba used to paint animals and plants with the brush stroke like Japanese painting in her early works and have depicted mainly portrait since 2006. Portrait: Haru in 2009 seems to foresee the birth of her own child because it is reminiscent of him even though he was born after the work. The artist’s motif is mostly the portrait of child and depicts controlled feelings with delicate brushwork. Her child has just flown to the new world through her works as a model within a radius of three meters.

The relationship between parents and children exists in the daily life and motherhood. The actual nurturing by mother is different from by father because women, especially in Japan, spend more time with their children than men and have more emotional views. However, Ishiba removes the emotion she might feel to her child from her portraits for showing the innocent the child has.
Miwa Ishiba was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1973. After she dropped out Musashino Art University Junior College of Art and Design, she started to produce mainly illustrations. Ishiba, however, switched over to her career in a painter because she got attention at “GEISAI #6” in 2006. She has joined the group exhibitions and finally has a solo exhibition at the gallery. "

"Twenty years ago or so I faced the torment of missing the direction of painting, hopelessly at an impasse with no way out.

It was at that time of despair when I encountered Maitreya bodhisattva* at Koryuji Temple in Kyoto. Standing in front of the statue emitting gentle lights with dignity beyond time and space, I received “something” that I could not find appropriate words for.

Since then, it has been all I hope my painting will communicate : “something” that directly reaches you.

I am and will be on the way to looking for that “something”.

"Artist Barbara Rivera focuses on the art of conceptual portraiture. Born in Puerto Rico, she came to Miami in 1987, and studied at the University of Miami where she received her BFA in painting and graphic design. She later received her MFA from Florida International University with a concentration in painting. Her paintings provide new possibilities of identification that can conceive the female subject, and its social relations with diverse alternatives. Some of the paintings are small in scale to provide a contemporary version of the eighteenth century tradition of decorative, fancy pictures. This tradition continued into early Victorian times in the more adulterated version of the ‘Keepsake’ (small engraved illustrations of lovely young women)."

Julio Reyes

Julio Reyes b. 1982, Hollywood, California

Even as a child, Julio knew he wanted to be an artist, and he drew constantly. His ever-growing imagination was fueled by his family’s tradition of telling what were often fantastical tales of his lineage, imbuing his childhood with wonder. “Beyond my parents, there exists an incredible family saga, transmitted to me around dinner tables and fireplaces one story at a time. Through those experiences, I learned that I come from a long line of Indians, witch-doctors, and bootleggers, a lineage that stretches out across Mexico, and the American Southwest. I suppose it was there with my family that I got what I really needed to be an artist. It was in family and hearth that I discovered what it meant to feel deeply about things – the ability to move and be moved by others. At that dinner table, my soul was built up and made larger with noble thoughts. I learned that there were sacred things in life, and that I should devote myself to knowing them”.

By the time Julio was in high school his drawing skills were well developed. His teachers made note of his abilities, and encouraged him to pursue a life in the arts. It was about this time however that Julio was finding great success as an athlete. He excelled in soccer, and participated in tournaments all over the world. He was the youngest player on virtually every team he played for – only 16 years old when he toured through Europe, on a team of guys four years his elder. Reyes was also chosen for a select team of players from all over California, to participate in the famed Gothia Cup Tournament in Gothenburg, Sweden. With over 60 different nations participating, the tournament was, and still is, larger than the world cup. Their team proudly represented the United States in the championship game final, played in Ullevi Statium. Colleges were recruiting him with the promise of generous scholarships, but Julio made a surprising decision and turned them down.
" I couldn’t see myself being an athlete all my life. I remember very clearly, I was in the Louvre in France, with a group of soccer guys who really only had girls on the mind. As I looked around, I was overwhelmed with this tremendous sense of longing. It felt as though I was the only one who knew we were surrounded by splendor. I never felt further from my dreams. Later that night, in my sketchbook, I secretly drew as many works of art as I could remember. As if by doing so, I could catch up to lost time; there was this rush, to get to my true vocation…I knew then what needed to be done.”
Julio enrolled in the Laguna College of Art and Design in the year 2000 and began painting with oils for the first time. He learned about art history and aesthetics, as well a classical approach to the materials and techniques of both painting and sculpture. It was here that he met and fell in love with his future wife, and artist, Candice Bohannon.

He now lives and works in a secluded Northern California studio with his artist wife. Speaking about her and the move, Reyes says “To say the least, she is the single most impressive person I've ever met and carries herself with calm dignity and a quiet intelligence. In our life together, nestled in the trees, amidst the quiet of the mountains, I have found the clarity to pursue what matters most to me.”

Reyes’ is openly antagonistic towards the prevailing influence that Post-Modernism now enjoys over all aspects of art and culture; and sees it as antithetical to his values. On this he says, “There is a hidden melancholy in our time, undoubtedly linked to the cultural vacuum left in the wake of the post-modern so-called ethic. Before us, a new frontier, where all old truths have been torn down, and none replaced. It is my generation, who now sadly wander these badlands.”
It is this kind of great conflict that gives added purpose to Julio’s life’s work. It can be felt in the types of scenes he chooses to depict; and it is the connective tissue that relates his private experiences with greater movements of our culture. His optimism lies in the human condition: that depspite the horrors man is capable of, there is that noble and insatiable quest to better know himself and his place in the universe.

"For me, the most meaningful source of inspiration is the people, places, and things I know best. I have always been moved by the human capacity to love, dream, and persevere, with great courage and sincerity, in spite of a vast and un-sympathetic Nature. To a cynical art world this may sound silly; but to me it is one of the miracles, and beautiful mysteries of life.
My recent works speak with more authority because they tell the story of my life. There’s this great feeling of anticipation, as though everything I’ve ever been and known will at some point play a role in my work. It’s the hidden secrets in plain sight that I find so rewarding - all those layers of content and history that can’t be faked and cannot be rushed. It's this kind of quality I’m after: the lasting impression, not the quick effect.

Art has become a means for me to measure the value of my experiences; to seek patterns and hidden purposes, and to delight in their fullest expression… this is more like an attitude and/or habit of mind. As a result I'm getting right to heart of things more quickly and without equivocation. My pictures are more about mystery and a sense of amplitude; and less about vagueness or ambiguity. As such I think people can relate to it. There's an almost haunting human warmth, and longing in it - relevant to any soul wary of the modern experience.”

As for his role in this new and un-brave world, Julio states:

"Very simply, I want to create art for the rest of my life according to my highest calling and fullest abilities -- all else stems from this really. If I can transmit, through my work, even the smallest semblance of the love and awe that I have for life – I will have truly done something... I want to look back on a life of meaningful and serious works of art. Art that stands against the growing nihilism of our time, and with fixed purpose celebrates the beauty and immensity of life.”

"Born in Cortez, Colorado, Francis Livingston has been painting for 35 years. He is in the top ranks of American illustrators, and his work has been widely published. Francis Livingston's paintings have been exhibited in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. Livingston was awarded both Gold and Silver Medals from the New York Society of Illustrators, San Francisco Society of Illustrators, and Society of Illustrators of Los Angeles.

Francis Livingston studied at the Rocky Mountain School of Art in Denver before moving to San Francisco in 1975 to attend the Academy of Art. He later taught there for 10 years. Influenced by Sargent and Whistler, Francis Livingston painted primarily in a monochromatic style until he began to study the work of the Bay Area Figurative Movement, including Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebaud and others. That led to experiments with color and a fondness for the California and French Impressionists.

Francis Livingston lived and worked in San Francisco and San Anselmo for 20 years until he and his family relocated to the Sun Valley, Idaho area, where he has developed a deeper appreciation for the west. He has now become one of the West's premier living painters. Francis Livingston's paintings of western landscapes and pueblo architecture capture the colors and light effects that are unique to the West. His deep understanding of history, the land and its people allow him to create imagery reminiscent of the Taos Founders, and other great western artists. "

My sculptures integrate ceramic, which is the primary medium, with wood, fresh water pearls, semi-precious stones, gold leaf and oil paint. They are made complete with secret compartments which serve as hiding places for multiple and often times personal meanings. My recent work is based on narratives drawn from personal and historical events that are overlapped with subconscious images. The figures are like actors on a stage, enigmatic yet tense while being enveloped or encrusted within layers of overgrowth concealing a world within.
